The plant nursery "Le essenze
di Lea" (Lea's essences) is one of the small, highly specialized,
Italian nurseries, born with the desire to satisfy the needs of
a public that looks for rarities and curiosities. The aim of the
owners of this small nursery is, however, to let the great public
know of species of plants different from those that the global
market currently offers; species that with little effort and experience
can grow to suit our gardens.
Since 1995 the nursery produces, according to this philosophy,
rare perennial herbaceous plants. Refining the quality of their
own production, the nursery
is devoted to the research of non-common aromatic species, alimentary herbs,
officinal and non-officinal herbs, and is continuously enriching the collection
of Lamiacee with new: Lavandula, Lepechinia, Mentha, Nepeta,
Origanum, Phlomis, Plectranthus, Rosmarinus, Salvia, Scutellaria, Stachys,
Teucrium, Thymus etc.
Interest is focussed on the production of herbaceous plants or shrubs with
strongly aromatic and/or grey and tomentous leaves, plants that don't need
a lot of water and that are easily adaptable to the Mediterranean climate or,
with some particular care, also to hotter climates.
The nursery participates to the greatest and best known national shows, where
it has collected numerous prizes and important recognitions and the owners
expect in the future to have contacts with other countries of Europe, also.
The nursery already collaborates with University institutes and associations
for the supply of officinal herbs or for collections.
Elisa Benvenuti, one of the holders, is a founder-member of the Viridaria association
(Association of the Manufacturing Nurseries and Italian Collectors), that includes
among it's own partners other small nurseries that cultivate and research with
the same aims.
The nursery annually publishes for its Customers the list of the species in
cultivation and sells both on site and by post using a fast forwarding agent.
